Prepare to test your metal (or more accurately your “boffer” in the Burgundar Grand Tournament! This tournament is inspired by the MASI (Maine Adventure Society) Grand Tournament of old. There are two parts to the tournament Brackets and Grand Melee. Most participants join in to both parts of the tournament, but it’s not mandatory.
The Bracket portion of the tournament is single elimination, if you defeat your opponent you move on to the next round and so on until a winner is found.
In the Grand Melee the participants are split into two even teams, the winning team is split in two, and so on until it’s down to one victorious champion. Then, the winner of the Bracket Tournament and the winner of the Grand Melee fight to determine the Burgundar Grand Champion. The Grand Champion will win an expertly crafted sword made by Jacob Cross!
Lightest Touch – In typical MASI and Burgundar tradition blows must be struck following the lightest touch rules.
Three Swing Limit – You may not swing more than three times in a row without a short break between.
No Machine Gunning – Blows must strike different targets, three hits to an arm in quick (near instantaneous succession) would only count as one hit.
Combat Targets – Head and Groin shots are not permitted and do not count. Hands typically do not count but wrists and feet certainly do.
Past demonstrations that we hope will be returning include; The SCA Cut and thrust Demos, Arts and Sciences, and Fencing. The Portland Reavers with their heavy armor combat. And, Hearthlite showing off their unique, and rather extreme boffer combat styles.
